Travel deep into Kakadu National Park as you take a guided walk to view Aboriginal rock art, and take the famous Yellow Water Billabong cruise to observe saltwater crocodiles and prolific birdlife. VIEW ITINERARY
Day 1: Welcome to Uluṟu (Ayers Rock)
On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport you will be transferred to the resort (flights to arrive prior to 1.00pm). This afternoon travel to the mystical 36 domes of Kata Tjuṯa (the Olgas). Continue to the base of Walpa Gorge to explore the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. The walking trail through Walpa Gorge follows the natural creek between two of the tallest domes of Kata Tjuṯa. Late afternoon you’ll travel to the Uluṟu sunset viewing area. Witness the striking colour changes of Uluṟu at sunset while enjoying nibbles and complimentary wine. You have the option of continuing on to our exclusive venue for an Aussie Barbecue Dinner with Uluṟu as your backdrop.

Enjoy sparkling wine on arrival, then dine on a menu of steak, lamb sausages, chicken skewers and garlic prawns, salads and a tasty dessert. All accompanied by a selection of wines, beers and soft drinks. There’s time for stargazing too (weather permitting).
Day 2: Uluṟu (Ayers Rock) – Alice Springs
Travel to the sunrise viewing area, Talinguṟu Nyakunytjaku, near Uluṟu and watch the first sunlight of the day creep across the desert plains. Enjoy a warming cup of tea or coffee as the morning sun slowly changes the colour of Uluṟu. After sunrise join your AAT Kings Driver Guide for a drive around the base of Uluṟu. Travel by coach to the Mutiṯjulu Walk where you will be escorted to beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock art and learn about the Aboriginal and European history of Uluṟu. Visit the Uluṟu – Kata Tjuṯa Cultural Centre before travelling to Alice Springs.

Day 3: Alice Springs – The Ghan
Enjoy a free day in Alice Springs. Why not visit the Alice Springs Desert Park, home to plants and wildlife native to the area. You can really experience the beauty and diversity of this incredible landscape. The Arrernte people, Traditional Owners of the park, are also on hand to share their local wisdom and knowledge (own expense). Late this afternoon you’ll be transferred to Alice Springs Railway Station to board The Ghan for your overnight journey to the tropical Top End.
Rail: The Ghan Red Service (Budget), The Ghan Gold Service (Superior) or The Ghan Platinum Service (First Class).
Day 4: The Ghan – Darwin
On arrival at Darwin Railway Station make your own way to your hotel (transfer included for Gold & Platinum). The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure. Hotel: Travelodge Mirambeena Resort (Budget) or DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Esplanade Darwin (Superior or First Class), Darwin.
Day 5: Darwin – Kakadu National Park
Travel deep into Kakadu National Park. Take a guided walk to view Aboriginal rock art at Nourlangie. After lunch join the famous Yellow Water Billabong cruise to observe saltwater crocodiles and prolific birdlife. Visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre and view the informative displays and exhibits. Hotel: Aurora Kakadu (Budget) or Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel (Superior or First Class), Kakadu. Lunch included.
Day 6: Kakadu National Park – Darwin
Stop at Ubirr with a short walk to view rock art. Join the Guluyambi Cruise along the East Alligator River in search of saltwater crocodiles. You’ll have an Aboriginal guide with you and with the special permission of the local people, you’ll be able to go ashore in Arnhem Land. Later visit the Bowali Visitor Centre. Then there is the opportunity for a scenic flight (own expense) over the Arnhem Land Escarpment. Return to Darwin this afternoon.

Note (Departures in April, May and November): From November to May access to Ubirr and East Alligator River is not always possible. Alternative touring will be arranged.
Day 7: Farewell from Darwin
Your rail break concludes this morning in Darwin. You’ll be transferred to Darwin Airport for your onward flights (flights anytime).
