This 11 day luxury safari will have you experiencing what some never get to see. Experience the highlights of Cape Town, a hot air balloon ride and Africa’s majestic wildlife on this luxury safari package. Arrive in Cape Town, where you will experience the thrill of a hot air balloon safari near the Drakensberg Escarpment, stay in 5-star accommodations at the secluded Kapama Karula Lodge, enjoy a helicopter flight along the Atlantic Seaboard in Cape Town and so much more! All transfers are included, as well as 15 meals, international airfare, accommodations, and more! You will see game drives, experience South African cuisine at the Camissa Resteraunt, savor delicious loose leaf teas, savory snacks and gourmet desserts at a high tea experience. There is a variety of optional tours you can choose to go on as well, from whale watching to a visit to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela spent 18 years behind bars. DAY 1 – DEPART USA

Depart on your domestic flight (from 38 Major US Cities) to New York (JFK) or Washington D.C. (Dulles) to connect with your international South African Airways flight to Cape Town, South Africa via Johannesburg. From the moment you board your South African Airways flight you feel the warm and welcoming African hospitality in every detail of the world-class service you are about to experience.

 

DAY 2 – JOHANNESBURG/CAPE TOWN

On arrival at Johannesburg’s Oliver Tambo International Airport connect with your domestic flight to Cape Town.

On arrival at Cape Town Airport, you will be met by a Lion World Travel representative and transferred to the luxurious Table Bay Hotel. The airport is approximately 13 miles from the city center, so transfer times are generally fairly short.

Location is everything and the Table Bay Hotel is perfectly situated to take full advantage of some of Cape Town’s most incredible sights and settings. Conveniently positioned in the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront against the stunning backdrop of the working harbour, Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean; the Table Bay Hotel provides an experience like no other.

The rooms at the gracious 5-star Table Bay Hotel are fully air-conditioned and all furnished with the amenities and services you would expect from a property of this standard including Wi-Fi access, universal plug adaptor sockets and 24-hour room service. DAY 3 – CAPE TOWN

During your stay in Cape Town, experience some magnificent views when you take a helicopter flight along the Atlantic Seaboard. The flight takes about 15 minutes and you will be able to enjoy Cape Town from a bird’s eye view.

While staying at The Table Bay Hotel you will enjoy a dinner at the Camissa Brasserie. Camissa Brasserie is named after the Khoisan word for Cape Town, offering diners a relaxing and sensory experience while overlooking the harbour inside the scenic Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. All the innovative meals are made with the freshest and finest ingredients.

DAY 4 – CAPE TOWN

Today you have the option of joining a full day Whales and Wine Tour, exclusively for our Lion World Travel guests, at a special price of $120 per person – please let us know if you’d like to join this excursion.

If you wish to join this tour you will be picked up from your hotel en-route to the fishing village of Hermanus, visit the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley to sample some wines at Bouchard Finlayson Winery. The name Hemel en Aarde Valley (Heaven and Earth Valley) produces some of the best Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinotage, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz wines in the country.

On arrival in Hermanus, known for the best land-based whale watching spot in the world; enjoy a brief orientation tour and some land based whale watching. It is the Biggest Show on Earth – no tickets, no reservations – just sit yourself down and watch! Hermanus is rich in breathtaking scenery; with its unparalleled picturesque beauty, modern infrastructure and up-market shops. Enjoy a two course set menu lunch, including a glass of wine at Harbour Rock which is situated on the top of the cliff overlooking the bustling Hermanus harbor.

This is the ideal setting to take in the breathtaking views across the bay; an outlook that is surpassed only by the restaurant’s ambience and highly acclaimed menu. After lunch, return to Cape Town via Somerset West, where you will visit the Cheetah Sanctuary. The Cheetah Outreach project has been set up to educate people about cheetahs, as well as to raise funds for initiatives to prevent their extinction in South Africa. It is here where you will meet the world’s fastest land animals. Return to your hotel later in the afternoon.

DAY 5 – CAPE TOWN

Today is at leisure to explore your surroundings at your own pace.

To enhance your Cape Town experience, we recommend you enjoy a sightseeing tour. Our experienced Africa Specialists have some suggestions – a visit historic Robben Island is a poignant and moving experience to see where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned; or marvel at the brilliant views with a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain. The Cape Peninsula tour is a favorite option for enjoying Cape Town’s breathtaking scenery and watching the adorable African penguins at Boulders Beach.

During your stay you will enjoy the High Tea experience, served at The Lounge at The Table Bay Hotel. This is more than just a cup of tea and slice of cake! You may want to skip lunch today, or make this an early dinner. The High Tea experience has three courses. Each course is carefully paired with fine loose leaf teas such as Oolong, Darjeeling, French Early Grey and Bain de Roses black tea. The first course of tea is served alongside savoury sandwiches and quiches.

The second course is freshly baked scones served together with a selection of spreads, from strawberry jam and clotted cream to lemon curd and berry compote. The third course invites one to indulge in heavenly desserts and sweet treats all served from a sumptuous buffet table. An assortment of vanilla crème brûlée, banana cupcakes with butterscotch sauce, flourless chocolate cake, signature koeksister and the traditional Malva pudding are just some of the delicious menu items on offer.

DAY 6 – CAPE TOWN

Your final day in Cape Town! There is a marvelous combination of natural beauty and historic and cultural sites, offering world-class museums and bustling markets, inviting beaches and lush gardens, as well as great restaurants and wonderful shopping. Do some last minute shopping or enjoy another sightseeing tour.

DAY 7 – CAPE TOWN/JOHANNESBURG/HOEDSPRUIT

It is time to say goodbye to beautiful Cape Town as you transfer from your hotel to Cape Town Airport in time for your scheduled flight to Johannesburg. Here you will connect with your flight to Hoedspruit to begin your luxury safari experience. Upon arrival at Hoedspruit you will be met and transferred to your lodge.

Kapama Karula is set on the banks of the perennial Klaserie River and is the reserve’s most secluded and prestigious lodge. Meaning ‘place of peace’ in the local language, Kapama Karula exudes calmness and depicts the pinnacle of luxury 5-star safari accommodation. The meandering river running through the camp enhances the sense of tranquility at this elegant and luxurious safari lodge.

Five spacious suites all have indoor and outdoor showers, his and hers basins and a bath in the en-suite bathrooms. Standard in each suite are minibars with an extensive selection of wines and champagne, Nespresso coffee machines, safes and wall-mounted international adaptors. There are also telephones, overhead fans, air conditioners and gas-heated fireplaces in the suites.

DAY 8 – KAPAMA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE

This morning you will experience a Hot Air Balloon ride over the African Bush! You will enjoy a magical lighter-than-air flight near the foot of the Drakensberg Escarpment. It will be an hour flight over the scenic Lowveld section of the Blyde River. The terrain is a mixture of farmland, private nature reserves and wildlife game reserves. As the sun raises, the landscape, the vegetation and, if you’re lucky, some wildlife will provide fantastic photo opportunities.

You will be transferred back to the lodge for some relaxation time before you head out for your late afternoon game drive. Accompanied by a skilled ranger and tracker, you can expect to encounter a diverse range of animal and bird species – approximately 350 species recorded – on these game drives. Since Kapama Private Game Reserve is a Big Five reserve, there is a chance of seeing lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo during your stay.

Return to the lodge, allowing time to freshen up before enjoying a sumptuous dinner. Evening meals are often enjoyed seated around a roaring fire in the Rhino Boma. Alternatively enjoy a romantic dinner in the dry riverbed in front of the lodge, under a star-studded African night sky.

DAY 9 – KAPAMA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE

Another day to experience exciting morning and afternoon game drives! While at the lodge you will have some leisure time, you can relax under an umbrella at the pool area, which is also a prime vantage point for game viewing as it overlooks a small, permanent waterhole just beyond the perimeter of River Lodge, attracting various antelope species, elephant and buffalo.

DAY 10 – HOEDSPRUIT/JOHANNESBURG/DEPART

After an early morning game drive to track the animals that may have eluded you so far, followed by breakfast. Bid farewell to the place that has given you unforgettable wildlife encounters in the African bush. (Breakfast included)
